Bridges and Crowns

Support Your Natural Smile

Teeth are meant to work together in your mouth. When one or more teeth are lost, it can cause existing teeth to move or shift in place, putting uneven pressure on the bite and even changing the way the bite forms. When this happens it can be difficult to bite and chew. Shifted teeth become harder to clean, and risks for gum disease and decay increase. When a tooth is removed from the jawbone, the bone may shrink and cause your face shape to change, changing the way you look and possibly making you look aged. Bridges and crowns can be fixed into place in your mouth to support a healthy and radiant smile.

Benefits of Dental Bridges

Bridges and crowns are effective forms of treatments for a large range of dental health conditions and are popularly used to replace missing teeth. A dental bridge will “bridge” the gap where one or teeth are missing, by supporting one or more artificial teeth between teeth that have been “capped,” or received crowns. These fixed prosthetic devices are cemented onto existing teeth or implants to serve as a permanent solution for missing teeth.

Do I need a Dental Crown or Dental Bridge?

Many patients seek the benefits of crowns or bridges for the reasons below:

  • Replace missing teeth for a more functional and aesthetic smile
  • Cover a dental implant, attach a bridge, or restore a damaged tooth
  • Cover discolored or irregularly shaped teeth
  • Cover a tooth that has received a root canal treatment

Your Treatment with Us

After assessing your dental health and medical condition, Our Doctors will guide you through the treatment process for a dental bridge. At the beginning of the process, you will be administered a local anesthetic before your teeth are recontoured to allow room for a crown to be placed over them. This involves a gentle process where a small film of enamel is removed to allow for the crown to fit over the tooth. Next, an impression will be made of the teeth to serve as the custom mold by which to make the new bridge and crown. You may be provided a temporary bridge to wear while this crown is processed. At your second visit, the new crown or bridge will be inspected for a smooth, comfortable fit and a natural appearance. It is placed using a strong, permanent cement, allowing you to embrace your new smile quickly.

After the Procedure

Dental bridges can last 15 years or longer, but they need proper care to ensure success. By practicing good oral hygiene and checking in with your dentist every six months, you will be able to support your new and improved smile. Thankfully, because dental bridges and crowns are fixed, you won’t have to drastically change your oral hygiene routine to maintain a healthy smile. If you think a dental crown or bridge treatment can help improve your daily life and smile, don’t hesitate to ask our friendly and knowledgeable staff about how we can help.
