Dental Crowns

Restore your teeth to their natural size, shape, and function.

Broken, fractured, or decayed teeth don’t have to be extracted or lost when a dental crown can cover or “cap” the tooth and restore it back to its health and strength! Dental crowns, popularly made of porcelain or composite resin, resemble the natural color of your teeth and can restore a problem tooth before it causes severe pain or requires more extensive and expensive treatment. When a strong dental crown is placed over a weakened tooth, all of the functions you normally use your teeth for can improve.

Dental Crowns Are Changing the Lives of Many of Our Patients

Dental crowns have been a trusted form of dental restoration for many years, used to restore weakened teeth or transform smiles. Color-matched and custom designed to resemble your natural, healthy teeth, these devices won’t form cavities and can last anywhere from 5 to 15 years, or even longer. Dental implants are highly versatile and used by many patients for a number of reasons, such as to cover a dental implant, improve the appearance of your smile, and correct a tooth that may otherwise become lost to decay or damage. Once they are placed, patients may forget they ever needed to replace a tooth or were ever missing a tooth to begin with because they won’t have to change their daily routine and their dental crown will act just as strongly and comfortably as a natural, healthy tooth. If you’re thinking it’s time to let yourself feel the benefits of a healthy looking, strong smile, we welcome you to speak with us about how dental crowns can help transform your life.

Dental Crowns

Your tooth or teeth may need a dental crown if:

  • You have a cavity that is too large for filling
  • You are missing a tooth and need a bridge or dental implant
  • You have a worn down, weakened, or damaged tooth
  • You’ve had root canal treatment and need to restore the tooth
  • Your tooth is discolored or irregularly shaped

Before the Procedure

When you come in for dental crown treatment, we’ll perform a comprehensive review of your medical history, listen to your specific questions or concerns, and discuss what your best treatment options are. If you find that dental crowns are the best way to enhance your smile in a way that is convenient for you, we’ll take X-rays to examine your dental health further and begin forming a personalized treatment plan to give you the care you need.
During the treatment, you will be administered a local anesthetic to numb the area and your tooth will be shaped to remove any signs of decay. An impression will be formed of the area to properly form the best fitting crown for your new smile. The new crown is made out of a strong ceramic or porcelain material, and is carefully cemented into place.

After the Procedure

Once you begin enjoying your new dental crown it’s important to keep taking care of your teeth between checkups. Brushing twice a day and flossing daily can help prevent your teeth from future damage or decay. Your dental crown is strong and resilient to stains and cavities, but keeping the surrounding gums and teeth healthy will only support a healthier overall smile. Should you ever have any questions about your dental implant, or are curious about how dental implants can benefit your life, talk with our team at Third Coast Family Dental to schedule your appointment.
