Causes for Dental Emergencies

Knocked out Adult tooth: gently rinse your mouth with warm water and reposition the tooth if possible, holding the tooth by the crown and avoiding touching the root of the tooth. If the tooth can’t be placed back into the socket, place it in a container of cold whole milk to keep it moist while you contact our office and prepare to come in immediately.

Knocked out Baby Tooth: If your child has experienced an accident and lost a baby tooth before it was time to lose the tooth, keep the tooth moist in cold whole milk and see immediate care. Our Doctors can determine if the tooth can be placed back into the mouth and examine if it has come out cleanly.

Cracked, Fractured, or Broken Tooth: Call for dental assistance immediately. To clean the area, gently rinse your mouth with warm water and gently floss around the area to remove any trapped food particles that might cause infection. If swelling occurs, apply an icepack to the side of the mouth.

Toothache: When a toothache is bothering you, rinse your mouth gently with warm water and floss to clean the area. Toothaches can range from severity to cause, so it’s important to seek a consultation to determine the cause of the pain and alleviate it quickly.

Depending on your unique situation, you may want to avoid any strenuous activities while you recover, and slowly introduce soft foods to reduce putting stress on your teeth. As you heal, Our Doctors may check in on you with a phone call to see how you are feeling. If you have any questions about your dental condition or how to take care of your teeth after an accident, you may call our office or visit our patient forms online, which can provide helpful insight on the proper care of your teeth after treatment.
